Ms. Vickie Lynn Pope Ms. Vickie Lynn Pope
(Died June 12, 2011)

On June 12, 2011, our loving and merciful God sent his angels to quietly and completely eradicate the pain and suffering of our beloved Vickie Lynn Pope of 3903 Ferndale Circle, Petersburg, VA 23803. She entered this world on August 4, 1966 and attended public schools in Hopewell, Cleveland, Ohio and Hampton, Virginia.

Vickie joined the Morning Star Baptist Church at an early age and later became a beacon of hope to her pastor, Dr. Robert L. Elliott, Jr., and the entire church family as she demonstrated her unfailing love and devotion to God and His people with her faithful attendance despite the obstacles/health issues which were a constant in her life. No matter how much pain dwelled within her body, she always let everyone know that “I’m okay.” Never wanting to be a burden on her family, she pushed herself to extraordinary limits of endurance to be an independent spirit. Through the mercies of God, her willfulness kept her on this earth long after doctors assumed she should have departed this life.

Vickie was preceded in death by her Brother, Mark Pope of Petersburg; Grandparents, Deaconess Lillie Ann Jones & John Edward Jones of Hopewell; Thomas R. Dugger of Philadelphia; and Whitt & Geraldine Pope of Hopewell; and a Step-father, James Hall of Petersburg.

She leaves to cherish her memories: two foster sons, Treyvan Dugger and James Dante Dugger; a loving and devoted Mother, Lillie Mae Hall of Petersburg; a Father, Romey Lee Pope, Sr. of Hopewell; Brothers, Lorenza Dugger and Romey Lee Pope, Jr. of Petersburg, Ronnie Pope of North Carolina, Maurice Pope of Hopewell, and Monsanto Pope of Hampton, Virginia; Sisters, Angela McCray of Petersburg and Christina Pope of Hopewell; Nieces, LaToya Green, Kadijah Brown, Shante Brown and Jasmine McCray, all of Petersburg; Nephews, LaMar McCray and A. J. Green of Petersburg; a devoted and dedicated Aunt, Bernice E. Reaves (Robert) of Prince George; Aunts, Frances Garrett, Mary Harding (Anthony) of Hopewell, Rose Taylor (Rev. Kenneth) of Kathleen, Georgia, Lavern Pope of Tennessee, Ora Lee Dugger of Philadelphia, and Vanessa Smith (Edward) of New Jersey; Uncles, James Dugger (Linda) of Newport News, Virginia, John “Gus” Jones (Stephanie) of Oberlin, Ohio, Warren K. Jones (Charlene) of Ft. Washington, Maryland, Gene T. Jones (Stephanie) of Arlington, Virginia, Thomas R. Dugger, Jr. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Raymond Dugger of Baltimore, Maryland; two Great-aunts, Ellen Jones of Prince George and Ephronia Eley of Newport News, along with many other relatives and friends, including Benetta “Cricket” Brown of Petersburg, Barbara Johnson Payne of Washington, D.C. and Benita Reaves of Hopewell.

Ms. Pope will be funeralized on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Morning Star Baptist Church (19121 Brandon Road, Spring Grove, VA 23881) with Dr. Robert L. Elliott, Jr. officiating.
