Mr. Charles LeRoy Briggs, Sr. (Roy Roy), 70, of 1824 Dupuy Road, Petersburg, departed this life on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg.
Charles was born on March 11, 1942 to the late Thomas and Julia Holloway Briggs. He attended Chesterfield County public schools and was retired from the department of the Army in Fort Lee.
He attended Emanuel Worship Center in Petersburg. Charles loved to watch old Western movies and sports. He especially loved and was a die hard fan of the Dallas Cowboys.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlesine Briggs.
Left to cherish his memory are: his devoted friend, Eunice Briggs; his sons, Charles Briggs, Jr. of Richmond; daughters, devoted, Jewel Briggs, Jannina Baugh (James III) both of Petersburg, Pamela Briggs of Richmond, devoted, Samantha Ruffin (Anthony) of Dinwiddie and devoted, Denean Harvell of Petersburg; grandchildren, devoted, Ashley Briggs, devoted, Cory Smith, Shakkira Briggs, David Briggs, Uniqua and Angel Baugh, Anthony Ruffin, Jr., Trensavia Ruffin, Anthony and Dionte Harvell, Javon Briggs, Shavonjae Burrows, Erica Roberts and London Glasco; ten great grandchildren; devoted brother-in-law, Earl Maye (Esther) of Petersburg; aunts, Rachael Briggs of Chesterfield, and Carrie (Curlie) Flourney of Los Angeles, California; devoted cousins, Evangelist Shirley Dicson of Petersburg, Frances Dillard of Washington DC and James Redd (Frances) of Chesterfield; and a host of several more relatives and friends among them devoted, Calvin Trotter, Deacon Willie Mayler, James and Edith Gregory, Eddie and Angela Raines, Charles and Marilyn Nicholas, LD and Ruth Brown, Benny Goode, Otis Hazelwood, Herman Robinson, his church family at Emmanuel Worship Center, Petersburg, and special thanks to the staff of the Golden Living Center of Petersburg, Dr. Michael Cohen and the staff of Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, August 25, 2012 at the Emanuel Worship Center, Petersburg, with the Senior Pastor, Joseph P. Green officiating. Interment will follow in the Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. The family is asked to assemble at 263 Southwood Drive, Petersburg on the day of the service at 12:30 p.m.
