2 Corinthians 5:1 KJV “For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.”
On August 8, 2012, Charlesanna “Anna” Johnson was called home to eternal rest at her home in Charles City, Virginia.
Her earthly journey began when she was born on March 2, 1927 in Charles City, Virginia to her late parents Matthew and Louvenia Johnson. Anna was one of seven children born to her parents. Her siblings Clara McCoy (Joseph* “Joe”), Matthew Johnson, Jr., Francis Tucker “Boots”, Bernice Jones (Robert*), and Harriet Young, preceded her in death.
Anna was reared in a Christian home as her mother Louvenia was a mid-wife and known as a “woman of prayer”. Anna accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at a young age. She remained a member of Gilfield Baptist Church throughout her years.
Anna was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. Anna leaves to cherish her memory; three children- (one daughter) Evangeline “Van” Johnson (Jerry*) of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, (two sons) James Johnson of Charles City, Virginia and Isaac “Ike” Johnson of Charles City, Virginia; four grandchildren- Michelle D. White (Reginald “Reggie”) of Croom, Maryland, Sherri Johnson of Baltimore, Maryland, Isaac Johnson (Constance) of Coral Springs, Florida and Layla Johnson of Charles City, Virginia; five great grandchildren; (one brother) Aubrey Johnson (Shirley* “Puggie”) of Charles City, Virginia; (one sister) Doris Tyler (Lemmie* “Boots”) of Charles City, Virginia; numerous nieces (devoted nieces: Shirley J. ”Bee” Crawley (Marshall) and Laverne “Sis” Green (Clarence)); many nephews (devoted nephew: Rodney Jones “Manboy”), and surrounded by cousins, close family friends (Elizabeth Johnson, Ann Blackwell, and Denise Dowdell) and acquaintances.
As a young adult, Anna became employed with Westvaco Company and retired after 35+ years of employment. Anna was a dedicated employee and always carried homemade dinners for her lunch to keep her day going well. Anna will be remembered for a multitude of things. However, a few highlights are as follows: quality home cooked meals and desserts; meticulous sewing of clothes, draperies and quilts; passion for hunting and fishing outings; fellowship and love with family and friends.
Anna was a giving person and enjoyed traveling in her earlier years of life. She had a warm smile and possessed a kind and generous spirit where she gave of herself unconditionally in many ways to family and friends expecting nothing in return. Anna was a gracious host to all who entered her home. Anna visited such places as Oahu, Hawaii; Negril, Jamaica; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Ontario, Canada.
“Always patient, Never selfish, Nice to everyone and Always willing to help someone.”
A funeral will be held at 2pm, Monday, August 13, 2012, at Gilfield Baptist Church, Charles City. A wake will be held prior to the funeral from 1 to 2pm at the church.
