Mr. Kevin Andre McPherson, 50, of 14213 Medinah Place, Chester, departed this life on Sunday, August 5, 2012 at the Medical College of Virginia, Richmond.
Kevin Andre McPherson was the second of three children born to the late Melvin and Jean McPherson on November 24, 1961 at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn New York.
During his formative years Kevin was reared by his father and lived with him and his sister in Brooklyn NY. Kevin graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1980 and immediately started working full time and attending the local community college full time. Upon his father death a year later, Kevin became the head of household by quitting college and obtained a second job so that his sister could attend college instead.
In 1986 Kevin joined the United States Army. While in the Army he worked as a recruiter and a career counselor. The majority of his military career was spent in Virginia but he also served in, Kuwait, Germany and Iraq. In 2008 Kevin retired after serving 22 years in the United States Army. After retiring he worked for the United States Government for 3 years. Kevin obtained a Bachelor and Master’s degree from St. Leo University and a MBA from Touro University. At the time of his death he was taking classes at Central Michigan University at Ft. Lee. Kevin was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. and a part of the Masonic Family.
“Mac”-as he was fondly called, was an amazing and compassionate individual who enjoyed making people laugh. He was fun loving and a friend and a peace maker to all who knew him. One of his greatest achievements that he took pride in was being a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. At the slightest mention any Fraternity, Kevin would immediately respond with the well known call of a “Que Dog”. He was a loyal fan of the New York Giants, New York Knicks, and the New York Yankees. He loved the Giants and was looking forward to a yearlong of “bragging rights” after they won the Super Bowl in 2011. He was kind hearted and had a huge personality with a contagious smile. He loved to host family and friends for cookouts and other gatherings. He was always encouraging and a mentor to family and friends.
God used Kevin to continue his legacy for years to come. He fathered one beautiful daughter Mychel’le McPherson (21) who he treasured more than life itself. Kevin also played an instrumental part in the rearing of his sisters, nephews and nieces. They were the food of his life and the breath of his being. Although he is no longer here, his beliefs and values were planted within them that they will grow spiritually.
Kevin departed this life on Sunday 5th August, 2012. He now sleeps in the lord and awaits the call of the life giver.
Kevin’s untimely death leaves us with much heartache and sorrow. He leaves to mourn: his fiancé Quanda Griffin (Chester VA), his daughter Mychel’le McPherson (Richmond, VA); his sisters Donna McPherson (Virginia Beach, VA), Jessica Young (Virginia Beach, VA); his nephews Kaseem McPherson, Ivan Johnson, Kendele Johnson and Cortlen Stegall; nieces Christina McPherson, Alexis McPherson and Genesis Young; grandnephews Kevin McPherson and Ivan Johnson Jr.; grandnieces Ajanae Johnson and Makeala Johnson, cousins and a host of relatives and friends.
